Adjustable Gastric Band
The Adjustable Gastric Band (AGB) is known as restrictive procedures as it restricts the capacity of the stomach. With the Adjustable Gastric Band (AGB), a band is laparoscopically placed around the upper part of the stomach and adjusted to make the stomach “smaller.” With the Gastric Balloon, a silicone balloon, placed inside the stomach, restricts stomach capacity. Although there may be less malabsorption issues with these restrictive procedures (compared with other bariatric procedures), there are still nutrient deficiency risks.
Nutrient deficiencies may arise due to:
- Changes in dietary intake
- Changes in food tolerance for key nutrient dense foods
